Resumen: This paper prcsents results of a fatigue life investigation carried out in butt welded joints loaded in bending. In this investigation are concemed the effects of weld joint gcometry on fatigue crack initiation and propagation. The parameters studied are the width and height of the weld joint The life for crack initiation was predicted using the local strain approach. Thc stress conccntration factor was computed by finite elements mcthod. A linear elastic fracture mechanic approach was used to prcdicted crack propagation lífe. Using weight function methods the MK factors of thc welded joint were computed for different values of geomctrical parameters. The theoretical prcdictions wcre comparcd against experimental results carried out in welded joints of the 17Mn4 steel, and good agreemcnt was found.
