Resumen: Power transmission shafts work in the majority of mechanical equipment subjectcd to fatigue loading. The main type of loading is biaxial with rotating bending and static torsion the latter induced by the static torque applied to the transmission. Fatigue cracking usually occurs in stress concentration featurcs such as keyways. holes or variatíons in cross section. This paper describes the design of a fatigue testing machine for biaxial loading of rotating bending and static torsion specially build for testing specimens of circular cross section simulating power transmission shafts. Presented are also S-N data obtained in the Cr-Ni-Mo alloy stell 3.+CrNiMo6 The fatigue data is discusscd in terms of the component of thc static torque applied and also of the magnitude of the stress conccntration factor introduced in thc spccimen. due to variations of the radius of curvature between two diameters of the specimen.
