Resumen: The mechanical properties of a new laminate composite structure are presented. Two composite laminates are separated by a polymer foam, through the foam is a tu be of braided glass fibre which connects the two laminates. With this system the shear deformation of the sandwich panels is greatly reduced The panels were tested in bending and shear in the elastic and plastic range with the objective to qualify the resilience and energy absorption capacity of the panels. Particular attention was given to the description and modelling of the cell structure of the polyurethane foams in order to explain the mechanical behaviour of the structure and also the influence of the foam density and flexibility on the failure echanisms.
