Resumen: Metal-ceramic composites can be tailored as interpenetmting network microstructures in either a homogenous or a macroscopically graded fashion. Their properties will depend on properties of the metal and the ceramic phase, the properties of the interface, the scale of the microstructure and the gmding function. Examples for different material combinations highlight the influence of the interface to obtain a variation of interna! stresses, elastic properties and fracture toughness.
