Resumen: Welded joints introduce geometric discontinuities originating local stress concentration susceptible of giving rise to the initiation and propagation fatigue cracks. Traditionally fatigue resistance evaluation is carried out through the use of design SN curves contained in applicable codes of practice. Its correct application has contributed significantly to increase the safety of welded fabrications. However this methodology cannot be used if defects are present and there is a need to evaluate the construction integrity both due to economic and operational reasons. The use of prediction models are in this case particularly relevan!. In the present paper an analytical model. validated by extensive experimental tests carried out in wclded aluminium alloy joints within EUREKA project EU 269, is reported.
